Art Awards
Hi
I hope you are all enjoying your Easter break. Whether your spending time relaxing on your own, or with family and friends I want to wish you all a fun, safe and peaceful Easter.
Yesterday, I started working on a piece of artwork for the 2024 National Works on Paper award, at the Mornington Peninsular Regional Gallery. A biennial award established in 1998 and incorporated the former Spring Festival of Drawing and Prints Acquisitive which began in 1973 and 1974.
Of course, I’ve left it to last minute to enter again. Strangely, I seem to work better under pressure with a deadline. What about you … Do like to get things done and over with or, do you leave it to the last minute too?
Without giving too much away, the artwork I’m creating may link to my Landwrap series in the Rydges hotel in Melbourne. Aerial views, land, tracks etc. Instead of cloth, I’m using vintage and hand painted papers.
After many hours of working on this piece yesterday the artwork has now taken on a new direction. One piece has turned into 10 smaller ones .Talking about putting more pressure on myself… Just when you think you have it licked it changes in all directions.
Small crop of artwork(s) The piece of cloth and stitching is from a textile flag I made at art school in 1994.
Today, I hope to finish it off, then spend some time outdoors and grab some sun before the cooler autumn weather hits southern Australia.
Hope you are enjoying your Easter break !
Cheers
